George Stephenson
How does English engineer George Stephenson show what it means to be unstoppable?
The Unstoppable George Stephenson (1781-1848) was known as the “Father of Railways” for his innovation in locomotives.
In 1813, Stephenson saw the “steam boiler on wheels” used in a nearby mine to haul coal on wooden rails. He knew he could make a better version.
First he built the Blucher. This engine could pull 30 tons of coal at 6 kilometers (4 miles) per hour. Though high-tech at the time, Stephenson was determined to improve the design still. To boost the power, he came up with the “steam blast,” which directed steam up the chimney in a way that made locomotives practical.
Stephenson started by improving the method for getting coal out of a mine and didn't stop until trains had revolutionized #travel across the world.
What Stephenson was able to achieve through his commitment to constant improvement is a testament to what it takes for a startup to be truly #unstoppable. Always strive to make it better—because better is always possible.
